First Sikh Temple in the U.S.A, After 1947, Independence of India
In 1969, on the occasion of the “500th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak“, Dr. Marwah donated a building for making a Gurdwara and then Hollywood Sikh Temple became the first religious place and a focal point for the community in the Los Angeles area. In the year 1987, a pledge was taken to have a larger place for worship, so that more devotes may come and connected with the Almighty.
The plan was taken to build a proper Gurudwara. To meet with the expectations of erecting mammoth project, worldwide donations were collected.
The initial budget was $1,400,000 but with construction changes, the Hollywood Sikh Temple was completed with a budget of $4,200,000 in 1995.
